Troubleshooting
Because chain drives are widely used, manufacturers and users often experience friction regarding quality issues. Identifying the source of these problems is crucial for resolution. Therefore, this article analyzes and discusses common problems encountered during the use of chain drives and proposes solutions for chain manufacturers and users.
I. Chain Drive Lubrication
Proper maintenance of any chain drive device requires correct lubrication. Chain wear and fatigue, sprocket wear and corrosion, inflexible chain links, or tight hinges are all related to lubrication. If the chain wears quickly, the pins discolor, and the operation is unstable, it indicates insufficient chain lubrication. Under normal conditions, the following lubricants are recommended: 20# petroleum grease for temperatures 200-400°C, 30# petroleum grease for 400-1000°C, 40# petroleum grease for 1000-1200°C, and 50# petroleum grease for 1200-1400°C. Lubrication can be done manually, using a brush or oil can. Chains in environments requiring a casing should be lubricated with a light oiling solution or by dripping. If the operating temperature exceeds 300°C and petroleum lubrication is not feasible, a solution of colloidal graphite dispersed in carbon tetrachloride or kerosene is more effective.
